Ski in Dubai
Skiing is now a very popular sport. In the earlier times, skiing is played by
those who are more "brave at heart" or those individuals who are more into
sports. The popularity of skiing is such that it is played not only in temperate
areas of the world, such as in North America and most of the European countries
with pronounced ice formation. Today, skiing in hotter countries, such as Dubai
is now possible.
Basic characteristics
The second largest of the seven emirates of the more liberal United Arab
Emirates, Dubai is strategically situated in the southern most shore of the
Arabian Gulf. It has a total area of 3,900 square kilometers, which is large
enough for a commercial development. The population however, is almost
concentrated in the city proper. Latest population is approximately at 1.68
million, and is expected to increase to 3.5 million in 2010. More than 70
percent of the city's population is expatriates, which is composed of Arab,
Asians, European, and considerable number coming from Asia and Africa. Outside
of the city, the population of the Emirate is sparsely distributed.
Dubai has a sub-tropical, dry climate. Most of the year, blue skies can be
expected outdoor. Dubai as a whole is characterized by desert vegetation, and
rainfall is infrequent and irregular. It normally falls during winter.
But why ski in Dubai?
Skiing in Dubai has been made possible in 2005, after the opening of the Dubai
Emirates Mall. It has a ski slope, which is the third largest indoor ski slope
in the world. With a ski slope measuring 400 meters, consuming 6000 tons of snow,
making it one of the most comfortable skiing places in Pan Arabica.
Another Dubai indoor ski slope is the Dubai Sunny Mountain Ski Dome, which
started operation recently. It features, among other things, a revolving ski
slope, a made-made mountain range. Added to this is an artificial ice bridge, a
cable lift and a snow maze. To complete the pleasure and reason why to ski in
Dubai is like—to ski in other more temperate regions of the world but without
the hassles—is the presence of polar bears, cold-water aquarium and other
man-made special effects.
Aside form the novelty of skiing in a pleasantly warm country; to ski in Dubai
is also to find almost unlimited business and working opportunities. Dubai is
not only great for skiing but for a holiday tour in general. Tourists can
experience everything from huge residential projects to awe inspiring rugged
mountains and hauntingly beautiful sand dunes, sandy beaches, lush and full
garden parks.
The dusty and residential villages are crusted with ancient houses and homes
with towers together with state-of-the-art shopping mall. Restaurants are full
of foods that combine the Mediterranean and European cuisines. Spas and other
health-related centers are also available, making vacation a once in a lifetime
experience. Interactions with staffs who make up many hotels and shopping malls
are relatively easy because Dubai employs many foreign workers who are normally
educated and skilled. While Arabic is the official language, English is widely
spoken. Want to ski in Dubai? You wont regret it.
